Here Come the Mummies
Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 7:30 PM
Back by popular demand, Here Come the Mummies is an eight-piece funk-rock band of 5,000 year-old Egyptian Mummies with a one-track mind. Their "Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave" is sure to get you into them (and possibly vice versa). Since their discovery Here Come The Mummies has opened for P-Funk, Al Green, and Cheap Trick; rocked Super Bowl Village 2012; become a regular on The Bob and Tom Show; been invited to play Summer Camp Music Fest 2015/16, Common Ground 2015, Voodoo Fest 2015, Musikfest 2016, Summerfest, and Riverbend 2016; and sold tickets by the thousands across large swaths of North America. Maybe that’s why the ladies (and some dudes) can’t stop losing their minds over these mayhem-inducing mavens of mirth. Some say they were cursed after deflowering a great Pharaoh’s daughter. Others claim they are reincarnated Grammy-Winning studio musicians. Regardless, HCTM’s mysterious personas, cunning song-craft, and unrelenting live show will bend your brain, and melt your face. Get ready, for Here Come The Mummies. Hits include “Ra Ra Ra” and “Pants”.

2016-2017 Ritz Players Season

Elvis People
By Doug Grissom
(An event in The National Theatre at The Ritz)
October 7, 8 & 15, 2016 - 7:30 PM
October 16, 2016 – 2:00 PM
No performer before or since has had the impact of Elvis Presley, from the first groundbreaking appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" to Las Vegas to Graceland; the magazine American Demographics reports that 84 percent of all Americans say their lives have been touched by Elvis in some way. With the iconic mythology of Elvis as a backdrop, Elvis People is a funny and touching journey through the decades that examines the King's impact on American culture through the eyes of the disparate people he affected throughout and beyond his life. In a series of vignettes and monologues, you'll meet a variety of Elvis fans, worshipers and detractors, such as: an Elvis impersonator who rises from near obscurity to almost-fame, a family torn apart by the daughter's love of Elvis, a daughter who shoulders her elderly mother through one last trip to Graceland, a couple who almost get an amazing present from Elvis until they comically ruin their own good fortune, and a Vietnam vet who makes it through a traumatic episode with the help of Elvis. You'll see how a button torn from Elvis' shirt comes between a young couple in hilarious and complicated ways, how a snapshot of Elvis brings on a marital crisis, and how a recovered filling from Elvis' teeth leads to memorabilia collectors debating the meaning of faith … sort of.
