THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY, Ritz, Tiffin

From 10:00AM to 11:00AM

Grades 4-8, Returning to the Ritz by popular demand, Mad River Theatre will once again present the story of Jackie Robinson live onstage. The play shows the vital moments of Robinson's life including scenes when he was a player in the Negro Leagues, being signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers and the resistance as the first African-American to break the color barrier in the sport known as "America's Pastime." Critical to the story are the racial slurs he endured. Through a powerful song called "Words are Alive", the play demonstrates how hurtful and destructive language can be and how facing these obstacles with dignity and restraint shaped Robinson's character until he eventually became, not only one of the most significant baseball players in the history of the game, but "everybody's hero" as well.
